Special Buttercream Frosting - joelle - 05-20-2012 02:13 AM

Ingredients
2 cups shortening
8 cups confectioners' sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 teaspoons clear imitation vanilla extract
6 fluid ounces heavy cream

Cream shortening until fluffy. Add confectioner's sugar and continue creaming until well blended.
Add salt, vanilla, and whipping cream blend on low speed until moistened. Add additional whipping cream if necessary (up to 2 ounces). Beat at high speed until frosting is fluffy.[/hide]

Wow those cupcakes look really good, thank you for posting them. What is confectioner's sugar and what makes it different. It looks fine but what makes it special. why heavy cream too? other that it looks great, thanks for posting it for all of us to enjoy!

They look great. Confectioner's sugar I'm not 100% sure what it is Alison but it's probably just a special type of sugar and you can probably replace it with another type if necessary or wanted. Heavy cream is great and that's up too you how much you put. Thanks for the post!

Confectioners sugar is powdered sugar or icing sugar, and cannot be replaced in this recipe by any other type of sugar. Heavy cream can possibly be replaced by half and half or even whole milk, but the recipe will not be as rich. Hope this helps!

Nice frosting. Thanks for the post Gran I'm sure it really helped them and it helped me good. I especially wasn't sure on the confectioners sugar, and the cream helps too. Thanks again!
